Description:

This course will provide hands on instruction for students who wish to learn how to create pottery using the wheel. Instruction will focus on the following skills and the end product will be throwing a 3" - 4" cylinder.  

Students will learn the fundamentals of throwing: 
  • Learn the mechanics of centering, opening, pulling.
  • Cutting off a wheel or bat. 
  • Cutting of an uneven top.
  • Finishing bottom. 
  • Wedging.
  • Learn the hand and body positions needed in throwing.
  • Learn to throw cylinders.
  • Learn to trim pieces after they reach leather hard.
  • Reclaiming clay.
  • Learn other skills as determined by the instructor.


Materials:
The instructor will provide a recommended list of tools/clay which may include but is not limited to the following:
Small sponge, wood or rubber rib, cutting wire, needle tool, trimming tools, container for water, and clay.
