Grand Clay Arts Meeting

The next general membership meeting of Grand Clay Arts will be held September 15, 2022, at 9:00 AM.  We look forward to seeing you again as the new season gets underway.

Message from the President

Bruce Lucas

Thanks to everyone for a great Grand Clay Arts Holiday 21/Spring 22 season!  For sure, creativity was top notch, demonstrated by the wonderful pieces produced.

We're looking forward to the future with the planned new kiln room.  This week the final plans were submitted to the city of Surprise for approval.  Hopefully, the process will move along smoothly to a successful conclusion.

Also, the new SCG Village Center is an ongoing plus for the club.  The positioning of the new outdoor dining area continues to attract shoppers to the Gallery window pottery display.  At the moment, both the lobby and window Gallery assortments look tremendous.  Thanks for your support.  The plan is to maintain a great Gallery pottery appearance throughout the summer months.

With over half of our membership away for the summer, we wish everyone the best, and will touch base with you through the June newsletter in 30 days!

Congratulations!

BOB PIPER
Artist of the Month!

Will the real Bob Piper please step forward!

Bob is all these images rolled into one.  GCA is incredibly fortunate to count Bob Piper among our members!  His "can do" attitude in dealing with studio life is a win for all of us.  An upbeat approach and willingness to help all his fellow GCA members is the Bob Piper trademark.  While Bob is away in Utah this summer, escaping the Arizona summer heat, he will be missed.  Travel safe, see you in the fall!

Congratulations BOB, May Artist of the Month!

Monitor's Corner

Monitor Committee

THANK YOU...to everyone who stepped up to fill monitoring sessions or take part in monitor training so far in May.  Please review the monitor's calendar for additional monitoring opportunities.

Moving into the warm weather months, the most important time slot to fill is 8:50 AM to Noon.  It would be great to confirm monitor coverage for the open sessions Monday through Friday for the balance of the month.

Once again, thanks for your participation!  The club's monitor is GCA's first impression to the Sun City Grand community visitors.  We appreciate your efforts!

Market Opportunities

May - - - Market at Grand (MAG)

We experienced another successful MAG Saturday event!  Three thousand dollars in sales to community residents were generated .  That's 114 pieces sold!  A very special thanks to Lee Root and Cathy Rick for planning and hosting the monthly Spring (February through May) markets!

2022 Fall Fest / Artisan Fusion Art Walk, Saturday, November 19, 2022

Plan on a November 19 community event similar to past Fall Fests.  The event will feature a powerful presentation of visual arts sourced exclusively from Sun City Grand artists.  The day will also offer music, food, as well as maker demonstrations from the Artisan Fusion groups.  The goal of the event is to bring SCG artists and fellow Surprise area residents together in celebration of the Sun City Grand visual arts movement.

Stay tuned for monthly updates.

We would like to thank ALL of you thoughtful and AMAZINGLY talented artists who gave so willingly of your time and talents for the POP program.  The plates you made during our POP Party on May 11 are true treasures as are each of you!  It was so much fun listening to Oldies but Goodies (just like us), singing along, dancing or swaying while making magical plates out of clay.  You truly are gifted artisans and the benefits of your creativity will not only be reaped by our neighbors who purchase them, but more importantly by those less fortunate who get their meals from the Valley View Community Food Bank.

The pizzas were fantastic, I think you all agree!  The sodas were, well, cold and refreshing.  The conversations and the laughter were the best part of the evening...not to take anything away from the creative plates!  What a wonderful, fun and caring group of people you are.  It it doesn't hurt your arm too much, please pat yourselves on the bank!  We can't thank you enough but we hope the pizza helped a little.

We will give you another opportunity for a fun evening out on Thursday, June 2, from 6-9:00 PM and we will once again have everyone's favorite PIZZA!!!  Some of you brought your own drinks, which is fine.  Just know that we will provide brand name sodas as well!

Please sign up on the GCA website for POP so we will know how many pizzas to order!

Many thanks from your POP Committee.
