Grand Clay Arts Meeting

The next general membership meeting of Grand Clay Arts will be October 21, 2021, at 9:00 AM.  We welcome participants both in the studio and on Zoom.  Please join us!  You will find the link on the home page.

Message from the President

Bruce Lucas

"O Canada" . . .The border opens November 1.  Looking forward to your return!

The pace is picking up in SCG.  Temperatures have dropped into the 80's.  The community is coming alive!

The Village Center construction project is targeted to be completed in late November.  Final landscape enhancement is set for December.  The area's seating and dedicated activity space will now accommodate hundreds versus the very limited previous capacity.  The goal is to truly focus on the Village Center as an important hub of community activity.

Please note the photo taken from our studio window earlier in the week.  Once completed, Grand Clay Arts will have an opportunity to share the benefits of the upgraded Village Center area through increased foot traffic.

Housekeeping notes:

Studio Time
Please take the opportunity to go online and enter your name in a time slot covering your anticipated studio visit.  It is important to reserve your table space or potter's wheel to avoid possible disappointment.

Glaze Room
Last year, we were great at keeping the Glaze Room clean and looking sharp!  Let's support Jean Z. and the Glaze Room Crew this year with the same dedication to clean floors, clean glaze buckets, and clean counters.  It makes a difference!

Drying Rack Time
In a few weeks, drying rack space may be at a premium.  Please limit your works of art time on the racks to a maximum of two weeks.  (I'm guilty as charged.)  Please join me in supporting this request.  Yes, it's a tough one for some of us.  However, in fairness to fellow members, it's an area that needs support.

Great October Saturday Market at Grand
Our first Fall 2021 Saturday morning market generated $850 in a few hours of sales activity.  That's really great!  Thank you to everyone who participated.  Special thanks to Lee Root (organizer) and Sheryl Ryan (banker) for making this event happen.  The next Market at Grand is set for Saturday, November 6, from 9AM to 1PM.  YOU MAY SIGN UP TO PARTICIPATE STARTING SUNDAY, OCTOBER 17 AT HIGH NOON IN THE CLAY ARTS STUDIO LOBBY.

Artisan Fusion Video - STARRING YOU
Join us Thursday morning at 9AM for the October membership meeting.  Participate in the meeting live, either in the Clay Arts Studio or on Zoom.  The Artisan Fusion (4 1/2 minute) video produced by CAM for the new SCG website, will be shown.  Members of the SCG visual arts community (aka Artisan Fusion) are the stars.  It's really something special!  You may also access the video on our homepage in the VIdeo Library (Artisan Fusion).

Have a wonderful month!

Website Updates
We are continually working to make our website more friendly and functional:
  • We've set up links to make it easy to move from the Newsletter to the website and vice versa.
  • You can find all the next General Meeting information in the "Important Links" section.  It will be updated with location and Zoom info the day before the meeting.
Over time, more changes will roll out so always feel free to give feedback!

Gallery
The Gallery is looking good!  The summer stock was rotated off to allow for our fall offerings.  There are currently 50 fabulous works of art available for sale!  If you have any questions about submitting your works to Gallery, let me know: gallerymanager@grandclayarts.com.

Kudos
  • To Geoff Iverson for always being available and coming to our rescue for any/all technical difficulties!  A few weeks ago, Geoff got the desktop up and running after an outage.  Apparently, however, the pencil sharpener became a casualty of the event.  Thanks again, Geoff!
  • To Terry Cullen for her dedicated efforts in maintaining the online Gallery!  We've had a good deal of churn this month, and Terry has worked tirelessly to keep the site updated.

Artist of the Month

A familiar face around the studio, Betty Jackson is our pick for artist of the month.  As you browse the images of a few of her fabulous pots, we are sure you will agree that she is one very talented potter!

During this past long hot summer, Betty was a star among the reduced crew of club members that kept the studio open and functioning on a daily basis.  Betty stepped up and led many weekly kiln room shifts, way more shifts than the hours needed for annual service time.  Added to this are the expertly produced e.blasts that Betty composes and forwards to us throughout the year.  For sure, we all appreciate the valued service Betty brings to our club.

THANK YOU BETTY!
