Grand Clay Arts Membership Meeting

The next general membership meeting of Grand Clay Arts will be September 16, 2021, at 9:00AM.  Whether this meeting will be an in-person or Zoom meeting has yet to be determined.

Grand Clay Arts Gallery

Karen LeMar

In spite of the heat, the summer months are bringing buyers into the studio, and we have a great stock of beautiful pieces to offer!

For Artists and Monitors, here is a quick recap of the Gallery procedures:

• Online Sales

Buyers can always shop the online Gallery. If they are in the studio, they may use their phone or tablet to purchase. They may also use the club's laptop, with assistance from a monitor or other member.

• In-studio Sales

Items may be purchased off the shelves, whenever there is a monitor or member to assist in the sale. Buyers use the pre-printed Artist Sales envelopes. Enclose check or cash, and fill in the info.

Checks are made payable to Grand Clay Arts.

The envelopes go into the door slot for the Treasurer. (Note that the Gallery Log is used for pick-up of online sales; not used for in-studio sales.)

• Artists...

Seven pieces per artist. All pieces must be posted on the Gallery site, using the online Gallery Request form. Bring items into the studio as soon as possible after submitting the request.

Remember that checks for the purchase of your pieces will be mailed to you by the Treasurer. We are no longer using "the book" to disperse payments.

Are you Missing Clay?

Lynne Shanrock

If you find you are itching to get your hands back in clay but don't currently have access to a clay studio, this might give you an enjoyable activity should you find some free time this summer.  Check out the many videos offered on YouTube that cover just about any technique you can imagine.  You will pick up great information to apply once you are back creating at GCA.  Simply search YouTube as follows:
  • Clayshare videos - Jessica Putnam Phillips shares a multitude of techniques
  • Matthew Kelly Pottery - A fabulous video selection which will be of particular interest to wheel throwers
  • The Pottery Corner - Will appeal to all levels of experience
  • Good Elephant Pottery - Includes a detailed episode on glazing
If you do a search on pottery making, many other videos are available.  Explore and enjoy!

We are happy to welcome a new member to Grand Clay Arts and to get her started, a Basic Clay class is being held this month.  Welcome Laura Burkett!

We are starting to populate the class calendar with Fall classes.  They will appear on the website and be available for registration two months prior to the class date so check the website often to see what is being offered.  You can enroll and pay online so remember about the early bird...

As a side note to all instructors, especially those who are currently enjoying their summers elsewhere, please submit your scheduling requests to get your classes on the calendar.
