The 2020 Bob Mohr Awards will be presented to Diane Niehof and Lynne Shanrock during the April general membership meeting. Join on Zoom or in the studio to congratulate these most deserving recipients.
Recently the Governor of Arizona modified the state's C-19 mask wearing guidelines. These modifications do not pertain to INDOOR activities within our community.
The SCG Board of Directors maintain that masks must be worn in all community buildings, including Grand Clay Arts, and the six feet indoor social distancing policy remains a guideline at this time. GCA membership has been terrific in following community C-19 guidelines. Once the CDC experts begin to relax guidelines, SCG may follow with appropriate action. Until then, thank you for staying the course.

April Market at Grand
Congratulations on the great April event!
- Revenues: $2,553.00
- Pieces sold: 115 items
- Average price: $22.20 (per item)
Note to all Market at Grand participants: We need
everyone's cooperation moving forward. It seems that several members exhibiting pottery passed on setting up or taking down the exhibit.
Moving forward to the May Market at Grand, the following request is made to participants:
- Participating members need to help set up the displays as well as take them down after the event.
- If you participated in the April event, sorry, no back-to-back monthly participation at this time.
- Earlier this week, GCA requested from CAM an additional 50 percent of space for the May Market at Grand. Let's see what happens.
The results of the April Market at Grand underscores a pent-up demand for products created by all seven visual arts groups.

Plates of Plenty (POP)
Last week was the first work session addressing the POP charity food bank donation project. Our Vice President, Pat O'Brien, along with Publicity Director Sharon Lucia and Education Coordinator Lynne Shanrock have taken a personal interest in the success of this worthwhile project. The goal for the first year is extremely modest: circa 100 plates. If you are interested in being involved in the Plates of Plenty project and have any concern about your ability to make plates, Pat O'Brien has agreed to assist anyone in the studio. Please feel welcome to engage with her if you need assistance.
The pieces created will be made available to the public acknowledging donations made to Valley View Food Bank. Whether you decide to sign up for the Plates of Plenty gathering online or just working at the studio, please join us in this worthwhile endeavor.
The next studio work sessions are set for April 13 and April 20, 6 to 9PM. Glazing sessions will be announced in the near future. You can sign up online (Event Registration) or in the studio.
Join in, have fun. . .the results are very positive in attacking hunger in our community. Thank you for your participation!

New Kiln Room Update
The SCG Board of Directors voted two weeks ago to move forward with the architectural plans for the shared relocated GCA kiln room and Unidine ice cream parlor. The approved budget amount is max $40,000.00 for the plans. The architect has been selected. Site plans will be drawn up along with guesstimated funding for construction. There is an issue with permitting. The city of Surprise is backlogged in the new construction approval process. This means delays. However, the project is slated to move forward. The timetable due to permitting is causing the additional delays in scheduling.
