Grand Clay Arts Club Closure

Bruce Lucas

As noted in the March 12th membership email blast, SCG has closed it’s campus operation in response to the Coronavirus pandemic emergency until 8:00 AM Friday, May 1, 2020. This current date is only a projection.

All Charter Club sponsored activities are suspended. However, outdoor venues including golf courses, tennis, pickle ball, lawn bowling, bocce courts, etc. (with the exception of swimming pools) are open for resident use. CAM has drawn a distinction between Resident Use  and Charter Club activities. Based on CAM direction, Charter Clubs may not use these facilities as a group during the March - May closure for organized play. That said, residents may use the facilities in non-Charter Club, non-SCG team play.

Specifically addressing Clay Arts, our studio, along with all other Charter Clubs occupying dedicated space, has entry doors chained and codes canceled. The Clay Arts studio is devoid of pottery in production, due to the transition to a show room atmosphere for the now canceled Spring Art Faire. Our space is neat and clean in anticipation of reopening in late spring.

Clay Arts also has an interesting challenge facing our membership upon reopening. Our artists planning to participate in the now canceled Spring Art Faire have between 650 and 700 unsold pottery works of art. To everyone involved, we are aware of the issue and are attempting to address ways to stimulate sales once an atmosphere of normality begins to take hold in our community. Also we welcome all suggestions that may aid in reducing our artists overall pottery inventory.

Our intention over the next few months is to keep you in the loop through weekly email blasts and monthly newsletters addressing what’s going on in the community.

We look forward to the eventual reopening of our Clay Arts Studio!

Stay healthy, and stay in touch!

Best regards,

Bruce
