A Note from Your President

Nancy Quinlisk

Ken Feldman, the Project manager for our expansion, gave an update on the Clay/Glass renovation and expansion at the 8/29/24 Grand Board Meeting.  Other potential options are being explored which means the project will be delayed.  We don’t expect construction to begin until this next summer, at the earliest. Below is a link to the board meeting. Ken speaks about Clay & Glass from minute 28-35. You can click on the link and forward to where he talks about our project.
Also, those who receive neighborhood newsletters received some version of the following from what Ken provided the Neighborhood Representatives. His comments were then passed on to us in last week's September communication.
  • "Clay & Glass Arts Project – As we got into the design phase, we uncovered many challenges to potential expansion of this building. One side of the building abuts a fiber optic line easement, and another side abuts a very large APS easement. The building cannot be expanded into the Adobe parking lot or the recently redeveloped Village Center open area either. Further, building a second story is cost prohibitive due to required structural changes and the addition of an elevator. As a result, this project has been shelved for now. However, we are searching for alternatives to move these clubs to another location."
We will bring you further updates as soon as we are able to share them.

Folks are heading back to the studio!

Hope to have a great turnout for our October 17, 2024 General Meeting.

Gallery Update...5 pieces per artist

Sherri Singer and Karen LeMar

As we head into Fall and our busier season at the Grand, we will again need to limit the number pieces in the Gallery to 5 pieces per artist.

The 5-piece limit will take effect on October 1.

In the meantime, if you currently have more than 5 pieces on display, please make plans to remove the extras as soon as possible. Remember to go to the homepage and submit a request to "Remove a Gallery Item", so the gallery inventory stays current.

Education

Cindy Wright

The team is preparing for the “peak season.”

This year you will again have the opportunity to develop new skills, express your creativity and make really cool stuff, with the support of classes. The goal is to build out the class calendar on a 6 month rolling basis, with sign up available the prior month. This will help you plan and get excited about your opportunities in the clay club.

We are also going to offer some new classes, a few that are ready and a few in development right now. Take a look at November’s calendar where you’ll see the new Pinch Pots and Using Templates class. Coming soon there will also be a glaze class using bubbles!

If there’s ever a class idea or need you have please email it to: education@grandclayarts.com.
