Moving Forward with Expansion Plans

The Large Project Team (LPT) has now met with the architect, and we are in the process of working on floor plans that will incorporate the needs and priorities for each Club. Our Board of Directors and Group Coordinators are working with this first draft to clarify our needs and work flows within the determined footprint which is significantly larger than we currently have. Massaging this first draft will take a few weeks so please be patient.

As was mentioned previously, we are in the Design Phase of the Large Project Development Process. During this phase, there will be several approvals needed by The Grand Board of Directors. Since we are the first large project to go through this process, there is a learning curve, and we will do our best to navigate through the various steps.

The Project Manager, Ken Feldman, has put together a project schedule and because of the time it will take for the various steps and the several approvals needed by The Grand Board of Directors, actual construction is not expected to begin until this next spring. This can work in the Clubs’ favor in that most of the construction can then occur during the late spring, summer, and early fall months.

We strive to present the most recent information to each of you. Please keep in mind that the schedule will likely have changes as we go through the rest of Design and then into the Construction Phases.

Market Day Sales

Jim Perez-Wood

Several of our year-round residents (Beckie Alexander, Leslie Friedman, Sherry Grundman, Jim Perez-Wood and Sam Valenti) participated in July's Market Day. The Grand Clay Arts Gallery was open to customers along with the high tables in the studio decked out with an assortment of pieces for sale. Additionally, our five sellers presented a full display on two tables in the Sonoran lobby. The 30 or so Vendors usually set up in the parking lot were located inside the ballroom as it was 103 degrees outside by 10:00

Peak traffic was between 9:15 and 10:30 as usual with 50-60 people browsing the vendor booths. Shoppers admired our colorful displays as they exited the ballroom and wandered over to view the gallery. But with their satchels full of bread, cookies, scones, popcorn, frozen seafood and pet treats, most attendees were more interested in filling their tummies rather than their homes with our beautiful artwork on this hot Saturday morning in July. We sold 4 pieces at each location.

The next indoor Market Day is August 17. If you will be in Surprise and are interested in selling, contact Cathy Rick (cathyrick9@yahoo.com) or Beckie Alexander (oldbluebird@comcast.net).  We are not planning to participate in the September market if it is outside.  Should Activites decide to move it inside, we will re-evaluate and will publicize any updated information.
