Mudhead Luminaria

Description:

In this class you will create a luminaria which has been inspired by the Hopi kachina.  You will make a slab-built tubular form, pinch pot for the head and hair and texture the surface to create the illusion of a costume.  The form will be incised once the tubular form used as a mold is removed.  In this one-session class you will create the entire form.  Bisque firing and glazing are on your own.  

Participants will learn:
- slab construction

    Materials:

    • Speckled Buff clay (approximately 6#)
    • Craft knife (X-acto or clay knife)
    • Brush for slip or magic water
    • Modeling tool 
    • Rubber rib
    • Scoring tool
    • Sponge
    • Ruler
    • Plastic bag (at least 12” tall by 8” wide)


    Instructor will provide:

    • Bamboo skewer
    • Tubular form
    • Popsicle stick
