Hanging Totem

Description:
Participants will work with the instructor to make separate components to put into a totem. Instruction includes making various components from templates and final stringing of the totem.
Participants will earn:
- handbuilding techniques using templtes
- threading tips to string the independant totem pieces

- Materials:
- Speckled Buff or Redstone clay*
- Basic handbuilding tools*
- Carving and texture tools (i.e. wipe out tool, sgraffito tool, dull pencil,sureform)
- 25 feet of parachute cord (Brown Camo Paracord used on sample) available at Hobby Lobby*
- Hardware (3/16" thimble) for hanging (available at Ace @ approx. $1.69)*
- 5" Styrofoam ball (available at Michaels @ $4.99*
- Nylon stocking, knee high okay (available at Dollar Tree @ $1)*
- Cookie cutters, 1 1/2, 2, 2 1/2 inch (approximately)
- Hole cutter, 1/4" (or size to accommodate your parachute cord)
- *Required items. Instructor will have various tools available for your use

- Skill Level/pre-requisites: This is an advanced class. You must have worked with clay at the intermediate level and it will help if you have taken a class teaching pinch pot construction.
